DENTAL IMPLANTS

DENTAL IMPLANTS

What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a small, medical grade titanium post that is inserted into the jawbone to function as the root of the tooth. An implant has the same elements of your natural tooth, comprised of a root and a crown. The root (the implant) works as an anchor for the new tooth to the jaw, which then provides stability under the gums, and the crown is the visible part above the gum line. The results are teeth that look and feel realistic. Dental implant placement is a great restorative solution to boost confidence and improve oral health.
Who qualifies for a dental implant?
Dr. Behazin will meet with you for a consultation to see if you are eligible for a dental implant. The initial consultation consists of a medical and X-ray history, along with a thorough oral examination to determine your eligibility. If the bone in your jaw is thin, you may need an additional procedure to reverse bone loss, which is called bone grafting. This will aid in building up the bone so the proper bone width and height are present for the dental implant. It is important that your jawbone is strong and your gums are healthy before you begin the implant process.
What are the advantages of a dental implant?
Preserves jaw bone structure.
The jawbone begins to deteriorate without the regular stimulation of chewing, biting, and speaking provided by teeth. Did you know that in just one year after losing a tooth, a patient may lose up to 25% of his or her supporting bone structure? Dental implants are an effective solution to stop the recession because the titanium screw fuses with the bone, which provides the stimulation that is needed over time to maintain jawbone mass.
Implants look natural.
Modern materials and technology have made it possible for dental implants to look just as realistic as they feel. Since the prosthetic is designed specifically for you, it ensures your smile looks natural and suits your face. You can be confident that your new smile will look and feel real.
They’re durable.
Dental implants are extremely durable and with proper dental hygiene, your implant can last you a lifetime! Long term, dental implants save you more money than dentures or bridges as they don’t require adjustments or replacements. When dental implants are cared for properly, they become a permanent part of your new healthy and beautiful smile.
Eat with confidence.
If you’re missing any molars, you may understand how difficult it is to chew certain foods easily. Implants are firmly rooted into your jawbone, so you can keep eating your favorite chewy or crunchy foods. Dental implants are extremely secure, so you will not slip or click when you eat, talk, or laugh. Smile with confidence and keep the corn on the cob coming!
What is the dental implant process?
1.) The implant: A screw will serve as the root for your new tooth and is permanently attached to your jaw.
2.) The abutment: A permanent, but removable by your dentist, connector that holds and supports the tooth or new set of teeth.
3.) The crown: This is the part of the tooth that you can see and is oftentimes made of porcelain for good looks and durability.
